In Language Arts class, we have been discussing the question of crime and punishment.  I know you guys have a lot of thoughts about this topic.

Right now, respond to this post by telling me:

1.  Do you think our country should focus more on punishing people who commit crimes, or should we focus more on helping them get better?

2.  Then again, does punishing people help them get better?

3.  Does is depend on the nature of the crime or the age of the criminal?

4.  What else do you want to say about this topic?

**You don’t need to answer all these questions.  Just remember to write a thoughtful paragraph.

You have been assigned a character from the town of Maycomb.  It will be your job to respond to prompts on the classroom blog from the perspective of that character.  Keep in mind that character’s social class, race, age, gender, role in the book, and any opinions they have mentioned in the book.  It is your goal to make it sound as though that character were writing this.

When you respond to the blog prompt click on the  ’Comments’ at the bottom and sign in as the name of your character.  Your email address will be yourname@canter.com.

The Prompt:

How do you (your TKMB character) feel about the guilty verdict for Tom Robinson?  What does this guilty verdict say about the town of Maycomb?

Your response should be AT LEAST one full paragraph, and answer the question completely. Use the text to support your response.  Credit will not be given to answers that do not follow the opinions of the character.
